Underwater Photographer of the Year 2017
During my 5th whale shark trip to Djibouti I was lucky enough to experience some night time shark feeding behaviour. Equipped with a strong LED lamp, every night we illuminated the back of our vessel in the hope that the collecting plankton would encourage a shark to start feeding. Incredibly, a shark turned up which disappeared as soon as I entered the water. Waiting for what seemed like an eternity in the cold dark water, the shark eventually returned and gave me one of the most memorable encounters I have ever seen. This is a sequence of moments captured that helped me gain a photograph that was awarded in the underwater photographer of the year.
